Mustangs Effort for a Comeback Not Enough

Box Score Oklahoma City, OK– The Western New Mexico Volleyball team hit the road on Saturday, September 24 for a match against Oklahoma Christian. Mustangs brought the effort to Oklahoma City but in the end, Oklahoma Christian had the home court advantage and would beat the Mustangs in four sets.
 
Junior Jazmyne Walker (Las Vegas, NV/Legacy HS) would lead the Mustangs ending the game with 15 kills, Walker would also ended the game with three aces. Senior Bria Augustine (Bellflower, CA/Mayfair High School) was followed right behind coming in with a total of 10 kills.
 
Senior Madelynn Culp (Vancouver, WA/Union High School) ended the game with a total of 28 assists, and one ace for the Mustangs. Right behind was Freshman Peyton Castillo (Las Vegas, NV/Sierra Vista HS) with 13 assists.
 
Sophomore Janey Cortez (El Paso, TX/East Lake HS) would lead the Mustang defense ending the game with 14 digs and five assists. Senior Madelynn Culp (Vancouver, WA/Union High School) would follow with 12 and Junior Jazmyne Walker (Las Vegas, NV/Legacy HS) would end with 10.
 
Starting in set one the Mustangs came out hard keeping the lead the beginning of the set. Oklahoma Christian then came from behind and went point for point with the Mustangs till the end. OC pulled away and took the set with a final score of 26-28.
Eagles 1, Mustangs 0.
 
In set two OC took the lead early on playing tough defense. The Mustangs tried to comeback but efforts were not enough OC took this set 25-17.
Eagles 2, Mustangs 0.
 
Set three the Mustangs came out with some fire intensity. The Mustangs went point for point against the Eagles keeping everyone on the edge of their seats. Mustangs snatched the third set with a final score of 31-29.
Eagles 2, Mustangs 1.
 
Set four OC took off with a giant lead. The Mustangs got hot trying to catch OC but ultimately Oklahoma snatched the set winning the match. 25-17.
Eagles 3, Mustangs 1.
 
The Mustangs will be back in action on Friday September 30th (6:00 PM MT) at Drags Court where they take on Dallas Baptist University.
