Box Score Denton, Tex. – The Western New Mexico volleyball team was in action for their final game of Conference Challenge Weekend on September 10
th at Texas Woman's University. The Mustangs would be swept up in a dustpan by the Dustdevils of Texas A&M International University.
Junior
Jazmyne Walker (Las Vegas, NV/Legacy HS) led the Mustang offense today with 11 kills. Senior
Madelynn Culp (Vancouver, WA/Union High School) spread the ball around the floor today as she finished with 13 assists.
Sophomore
Eliana Moultrie (El Paso, TX/Canutillo HS) and Walker covered the floor with pristine defense, as they both finished with 12 digs. Senior
Bria Augustine (Bellflower, CA/Mayfair High School) added 11 digs of her own.
Set one started with the Dustdevils storming out to massive 14-5 lead on the Mustangs. The Mustangs would never be able to find traction in set one has they would lose 25-13. Dustdevils 1, Mustangs 0.
In set two the Dustdevils would take the lead right off the bat and open up a 5-1 advantage. The Mustangs would not be able to take the lead at any point in set two. They would lose the set 25-17. Dustdevils 2, Mustangs 0.
The Mustangs in set three would make it a back-and-forth battle. They would tie up the Dustdevils on three separate occasions, 10-10, 15-15 and 16-16. The Mustangs would eventually lose the set 25-22 and be swept buy the Dustdevils 3-0.
The Mustangs will be back in action on September 14
th at Drag's Court against Angelo State University (6:00 PM MT).
