Match Recap: Women's Tennis | | Dakota Spillers

The Mustangs End the Year At Texas A&M-Kingsville

Kingsville, TX – The Western New Mexico University Women's tennis team played against No. 73 Texas A&M-Kingsville. The Mustangs were defeated 7-0.

In doubles, TAMUK would take the doubles point. The Mustangs No.1 team Julia Terrazas (Santa Cruz, Bolivia/Saint George HS) and Massiel Paredes (Lima, Peru/Pamer HS) and No. 2 doubles duo of Nicold Gonzalez (Bogota, Colombia) and Livia Leite (Cunha-SP, Brazil/Bernardino Querido,) were defeated 6-1. The Mustangs No. 3 team of Kajsa Gedlitschka (Greensboro, NC/Grimsley HS)  and Caini Wang (Taiwan/Taipei Municipal Nangang Vocational High School) also lost 6-2.

"In singles, Livia split sets with one of the best girls in the conference," said Head Coach Alex Hunt.

Leite would win a close set one 7-5, but would fall in the next two 6-2, 10-1. Gedlitschka played the No. 56 ranked girl, as she would be edged out 6-2, 6-1. Caini Wang (Taiwan/Taipei Municipal Nangang Vocational High School) played a tough match before her opponent won 6-1, 6-4. 

Terrazas and Paredes both were defeated 6-1, 6-2. Nicold Gnozlaez got the nod, as she would fall 6-0, 6-3.

"I am really excited for next year. We will be adding some really experienced girls with a group of girls that were able to develop this year," said Hunt.

The next time the Mustangs will be back on the courts will be in the fall of 2022.
