The Mustangs Drop Two Against #21 Texas A&M-Commerce

Commerce, Texas - Saturday afternoon, Western New Mexico University Softball played #21 Texas A&M-Commerce. TAMUC would win both games defeating the Mustangs 9-1 and 12-0.

Game One:

The Mustangs were in it most of the game before the Lion offense would put crooked numbers up on the scoreboard in the final three innings.

Aryana Munoz (Dexter, New Mexico/Dexter High School) got the start for WNMU. She pitched 5.2 IP, 15 H, 9 R (6 ER), 3 K, and 2 BB.

In the 1st inning, TAMUC got on the board first by leading off the game with a homerun. 

In the 3rd inning, Cecy Juardo tied the game up at 1-1 with a sacrifice fly. The Lions would retake the lead in the bottom of the inning, scoring a run off an error.

In the 4th inning, TAMUC's Alina Jasso hit her second home run of the game, giving the Lions a 4-1 lead. Continuing the momentum in the 5th inning, TAMUC scored three runs on three hits, giving the lions a 7-1 lead.

Texas A&M-Commerce would win the game in the 6th inning scoring two more runs on four hits.

TAMUC's starting pitcher, Emily Otto is now (9-1). She pitched a complete game 6.0 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 11 K, and 1 BB. 

TAMUC's notable hitters:

Alina Jasso: 2-for-4, 2 HR, 2 R, 3 RBI

Avery Boley: 3-for-4, 2B, 1 R, 1 RBI

Sabrina Anguiano: 3-for-4, 1 R, 1 RBI

Game Two:

Texas A&M-Commerce came out swinging in game two, defeating the Mustangs 12-0.

The Lions had a big 1st inning off of Mustang pitchers. They would total eight runs on eight hits. They had four extra-base hits in the inning including two home runs.

TAMUC continued to add runs in the 3rd and 4th inning with four more runs off two hits. In the 4th inning, three runs came from a three-run home run.

The Lions started Alyssa LeBlanc. She is now (6-2) on the year. Her final line went 3.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, and 6 K. Chanlee Oaks finished out the game throwing 2.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, and 2 K.

Four TAMUC hitters had 10 total hits. They had five extra-base hits, three were home runs, and also had five stolen bases.

The Mustangs will go to UT Tyler, on Sunday, March 13th, for a double-header starting at 10:00am and 12:00pm MT.
