Portales, NM - The Western New Mexico Mustangs concluded their 2021-22 basketball season in Greyhound Arena, Saturday afternoon. The team would go out in a fight against the Eastern New Mexico University Greyhounds, but were unable to pull through a win. The Mustangs finished 6-17 on the season, and 2-13 in conference matches.
Sophomore
Olivia Lee (Peoria, AZ/Cactus HS) would lead the team in points with 11 points on the night shooting, 38% from the field goal range and 50% from the free throw line. Lee would also be a huge asset for the defensive side totaling 11 rebounds, 2 blocks, and assists. Mustang
Myla Lee (Glendale, AZ/Cactus HS), would follow her teammate earning 9 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal. Lee would go in to shoot 42% from the field goal range, and 100% from the free throw line. Both sophomore
Cynaye Bobbitt (Killeen, TX/Harker Heights HS) and junior
Zyan Smith (Queen Creek, AZ/Mesquite High School ) scored 7 points each. Smith would be second in most rebounds earning 9, 8 of which were defensive rebounds. Bobbitt went on to have 4 rebounds and 1 steal.
Mustangs shot 26.8% from the field goal range and a 11.8% from the three-point line. Behind the arc was a huge struggle for the team today, being a huge reason why the team's offense could not get rolling into rhythm. WNMU's bench out-beat Eastern's bench with scoring 13 off the bench and ENMU only having 9 points.
