Rams End Mustangs' 2022 With Loss

SILVER CITY, N.M. – The Western New Mexico University Men's Basketball team hosted their final game of 2022 on Drag's Court against Angelo State. The Rams would be victorious over the Mustangs 77-63.

This puts the Mustangs at 7-4 (1-4).

Two Mustangs managed to score in double-digits tonight. Joshuwan Johnson (Phoenix, AZ/Maricopa High School) led the Mustangs in scoring with a game-high 17 points, including three 3s. Olamide Pedersen (Bronshoj, Denmark/Sunrise Christian Academy) chipped in 13 points of 5-5 from the field.

Free throws and rebound would prove to be fatal for the Mustangs. The Rams managed a near perfect, 22-23 (96%) from the charity stripe compared to the Mustangs 7-13 (54%). ASU would also outrebound WNMU 40-28.

The Mustangs would manage to outscore the Rams in the paint 36-28.

Pedersen led the way on the boards with six. Isaiah Lewis (Mansfield, TX/) would added five rebounds himself. Three Mustangs would also record two assists each.

In the first half the Mustangs would shoot 32% from the field and 18% from behind the arc. The Mustangs would finish the game shooting 42% from the field and 29% from three. The Rams would shoot 46% for the game and 31% from behind the three-point line.

The Rams would take a 35-23 lead into halftime on the Mustangs. ASU would be able to extend their lead to as many as 21 in the second half before ultimately defeating the Mustangs 77-63.

Three Rams would manage double-digits on the Mustangs. Reggie Quezada would drop 16 points and eight boards. Barlow Allenruzzo IV added 14 points and Fredelin De La Cruz scored 12 points with eight rebounds.

The Mustangs will be back in action at Drag's Court on January 1st against UTPB (3:00 PM MT).
