Box Score SILVER CITY, NM – The Western New Mexico University Women's Basketball team hosted No. 23 Texas Woman's University at Drag's Court. The No. 23 Pioneers would defeat the Mustangs 56-53 as Susi Namao's three at the buzzer would not fall.
"I think we played an overall good game but we have to be more efficient with out offensive possessions," said Head Coach Josh Pace.
Sydney Wright (Houston, Texas/Henley High School) led the Mustang offense with 11 points. Susi Namao chipped in nine points and Diamond Moore (Colorado Springs, CO/Harrison High School) added eight points.
Turnovers and free throws proved to be the Mustangs' Kryptonite tonight. The Mustangs would commit 17 TOs compared to 13 by the Pioneers. TWU would manage to hit the charity strip 22 times making 16, while the Mustangs would only muster six free throws, making three of them.
The Mustangs bench did outscore the Pioneer bench 23-16.
On the glass Diamond Moore (Colorado Springs, CO/Harrison High School) pulled down seven boards Namao added six boards herself. Rodgers would also dish out five assists. Delaney cook would swipe the ball twice from the Pioneers for two steals.
In the first half the Mustangs shot 38% from the field and 25% from beyond the arc. The Mustangs' shooting would finish 37% from the field and 27% from three-point range. The Pioneers would shoot 38% from the field and 17% from three.
WNMU would head into halftime with a 27-25 lead on the Pioneers. The Pioneers have a strong second half, leading them to a 56-53 victory.
"We have to execute better on offense to get out first LSC win," said Pace. "That will be our focus after the break."
Two Pioneers would score in double-figures on the Mustangs. Jordan Jackson scored a game-high 16 points. Sadie Moyer added 13 points. Scout Huffman would chip in 10 boards.
