SILVER CITY, N.M. – The Western New Mexico University Men's Basketball team resumed LSC play with a matchup against Dallas Baptist on Drag's Court. The Patriots would put a thumping on the Mustangs 88-58.
Two Mustangs managed to score in double-digits tonight. Emmanuel White (Katy, TX/) led the Mustangs in scoring with 11 points. Keith Littles (Augusta, GA/) chipped in 10 points as well.
The Mustangs simply could not buy a basket tonight. The Patriots would shoot 57% from the field and 54% from three, while the Mustangs managed 36% from the field and 25% from three. DBU would also dominate the Mustangs in the paint 38-22.
On the glass the Mustangs would out rebound DBU 33-31. The Patriots would hold the Mustangs to zero fast break points, while scoring 13 of their own. WNMU would also lose the turnover battle 19-15.
White, Isaiah Lewis (Mansfield, TX/), Jaylin McFadden (Rockford, IL/) and Dane Quest (Ontario, Canada/) led the Mustangs on the glass with four rebounds each. DJ Heath (Anniston, AL/) recorded four assists on the night. McFadden also swiped two steals on the night for the Mustangs.
In the first half the Mustangs would shoot 37% from the field and 16% from behind the arc. The Mustangs' shooting would dip in the second half to 34%, but would improve from beyond the arc to 31%.
Heading into halftime the Mustangs would trail DBU 38-30. The Patriots would open up the second half by going on an 18-5 run. That would be enough to put away the Mustangs 88-58.
Four Patriots managed double figures on the Mustangs. Jalen White lead all scores with 23 points on 8-8 shooting and 7-7 from beyond the arc in only 15 minutes of game action. Ricky Lujan added 15 points on 6-9 from the field and six assists. Cameron Kahn chipped in 13 points and Justin Haire scored 11.
