Box Score ALBUQUERQUE, NM – The Western New Mexico University Women's Basketball team traveled to The Pit on November 22
nd for an exhibition against Division I New Mexico University. The Lobos defeated the Mustangs 93-57.
Sydney Wright (Houston, Texas/Henley High School) led the Mustang offense with 20 points on 7-15 from the field.
Brooke Rodgers (Phoenix, Arizona/Cactus Shadows High School) added nine for the Mustangs.
Turnovers and points in the paint proved to be the Mustangs' Kryptonite tonight. The Mustangs committed 29 TOs leading to 38 fastbreak points and 19 steals for the Lobos. The Lobos did a better job of taking care of the ball with only 12 TOs. WNMU would also be outscored in the paint 54-26.
On the glass
Diamond Moore (Colorado Springs, CO/Harrison High School) pulled down 11 boards. Rodgers grabbed nine rebounds.
Bria Reed (Houston, TX/Clear Creek High School) and
Eliza Joynes (Adelaide, South Australia/Henley Sports Academy) added 6 rebounds as well.
Milan Tuttle (Oakland, California/Heritage High School) and Rodgers led the team with three assists each.
In the first half the Mustangs shot 36% from the field and 50% from beyond the arc. The Mustangs' shooting would only go down in the second half, 32% from the field and 33% from three-point range. The Lobos would shoot 49% from the field and 43% from three.
The Lobos managed to take a 42-28 advantage into halftime. The Mustangs would not be able to close the gap, getting outscored 51-29 in the second half, losing 93-57.
Five Lobos would score in double-digits. Vian Cumber scored a game-high 22 points including 6-8 from three and four steals. Nia Johnson added 18 points. Shaiq McGruder chipped in 14 points, seven boards and five blocks. Jaelyn Bates scored 11 points with eight assists. Amaya Brown added 10 points and eight rebounds.
