Strong Offensive Game From Bobbitt Against The Hilltoppers

Austin, TX– The Western New Mexico University Mustangs headed to Austin, Texas to play against the St. Edward's University Hilltoppers at the Recreation and Athletics Center, Thursday evening. Although there were portions of the game where both teams had their runs, the Hilltoppers would come out on top.

The Mustangs found themselves in a hole early on tonight. Quarter one was a struggle for the Mustangs during offense shooting 23.53% from the field goal range and 33.33% from the three-point line. By the second quarter, the Hilltoppers were leading the Mustangs 22-37. Junior veteran Zyan Smith (Queen Creek, AZ/Mesquite High School ) played aggressively both offensively and defensively to help the team gain momentum. A three-pointer made by sophomore Cynaye Bobbitt (Killeen, TX/Harker Heights HS) would only be the beginning to a great night for her. By halftime, the score was 22-39 as the Mustangs trailed by 15 points.

As the second half rolled around, the Mustangs came out in a 5-point run closing the gap in the score to 27-39. St. Edward's University's Lauren Catherman was strong asset for the Hilltoppers defense as she forced many turnovers by the Mustangs in the third quarter. At the end of the third, the score was 37-47. As the closing quarter rolled around, sophomore guard, Cynaye Bobbitt (Killeen, TX/Harker Heights HS) played with more confidence in scoring. She would go on to score 7 points which were added to the Mustang side of the board during the fourth quarter. Bobbitt shot 40% from the three-point line and 42.86% from the field goal range proving to herself what it really means to be a Mustang. The final score of the game ended at 53-72 as the Hilltoppers earned their fourth LSC Conference victory.
