SILVER CITY, N.M. - Western New Mexico University's Men's Basketball had a slow start to the game against team UT Tyler resulting in a 63-52 loss. The Mustangs are now 9-5 on the year and 2-2 in LSC play.
Jordan Doss (Chicago, Ill./Chicago Hope Academy) led all Mustang scorers with 19pts, going 7-19 on the field. Amarion Cash (Phoenix, AZ/Mountain Pointe HS) was the only other Mustang in double-figures, scoring 10pts (2-4 3FG).
UT Tyler went on a 17-2 run to start the game, putting the Mustangs behind early. WNMU eventually cut the Patriots lead to seven points going into the half.
In the first half, the Mustangs shot 31.6% (7-23), 11.1% (1-9) from three, and 61.5% (8-13) from the free throw line. UT Tyler made the most of their shots shooting 33.3% (10-30), 40% (6-15) from three, and 57.1% (4-7) from the free throw line. UT Tyler went into the half leading 30-23.
The second half was much of the same for the Mustangs. They would end the day shooting 31.6%, going 18-57 on the field. From beyond the arc, they were 22.7%, making 5 of 22 shots.
With 5:32 left in the game, Cash hit his second three pointer of the game cutting the Patriot lead to five points. The would be the closest the Mustangs would get in narrowing the UT Tyler lead.
The Patriots extended their lead off of Mustang fouls. WNMU had 25 fouls and would help UTT get to the free throw line 26 times, where they would convert on 20 free throws.
UT Tyler dominated the boards, rebounding 44 compared to WNMU's 22. UTT's Milan Szabo led all players with 13 rebounds.
WNMU did limit their turnovers only having 9, as for UTT, they had 17. The Mustangs converted 18pts off of Patriot turnovers.

The (9-5) Mustangs will play on the road playing against St. Edward's on Thursday for a 6:30pm MT and on Saturday, they will play at St. Mary's for a 3:00pm MT tip-off.
