Silver City, NM - The Western New Mexico University Mustangs took on No. 1 in the nation Lubbock Christian, falling 96-55. The Mustangs are now 6-3 on the year.
LCU had everything working all night. The Chaps limited WNMU's offensive opportunities. Tony Avalos (Las Cruces, NM/Onate HS) and Robert Banks (Dallas,TX /Duncanville HS) led the team in scoring with 9pts each.
The Mustangs shot 21-51 (41.2%) on the floor and were 5-24 (20.8%) from the three point line.Â
The Mustangs were out rebounded, having 22 compared to the Chap's 33. Olamide Pedersen (Bronshoj, Denmark /Sunrise Christian Academy) led the team with four rebounds.
The Chap's took care of the ball having just 9 turnovers. The Mustangs had 17 turnovers, where LCU would pay dividends, cashing in 16 points off WNMU turnovers.
Lubbock Christian went into the half leading 57-27. LCU's Aamer Muhammad had 20pts in the first half, going (8-11) on the field and was (4-6) for three.
Muhammad would end the night with 31pts. Three other Chaps were in double-figures. Parker Hicks had 16pts, Lloyd Daniels had 14pts, and Rowan Mackenzie had 12pts.Â
LCU had the three ball working all game. Muhammad ended the night going (6-8 3FG), and as a team went (14-31 3FG)
