Mustangs Great Play Give Coach Pace His First Career Win

Phoenix, AZ - Sunday afternoon, Head Coach Josh Pace led the Mustangs to their first win of the season and his first of his career, beating Park University Gilbert, 80-49.

"It felt good to get the first win with all the postponements and cancellations that we have had to deal with thus far" said Pace.

After a month break, the Mustangs took the court and got the ball moving on the offensive end, putting up 80. In the first half, WNMU was up 41-17, led by sophomore Destiney Johnson's (El Paso, TX/Parkland HS) 12 points.

Every active Mustang player saw playing time against the Buccaneers. "This game was about getting repetition going into February's schedule" explains Pace.

Olivia Lee (Peoria, AZ/Cactus HS) and Johnson knocked down 14pts each, leading all scores. The Mustangs dominated the boards, 51 to the Buccaneers 37. Zyan Smith (Queen Creek, AZ/Mesquite High School ) and Lee combined for 19 rebounds.

Similar to their first game against UTPB, turnovers continue to be an issue. The Mustangs 17 turnovers didn't sit well with Pace saying, "We need to be better not turning the ball over."

Mustangs to highlight… Lee: 14pts, 9 reb, 1 ast, 1 stl; Johnson: 14pts, 1 stl; Smith: 8pts, 10 reb, 4 ast, 3 stl, 1 blk

"With UTPB on the schedule next, we need to focus on not turning the ball over. They do a very good job of forcing turnovers" concluded Pace.

The Mustangs will be back in action going to Odessa, TX, playing against UTPB on February 6th!
