Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Four Mustangs Score Double Digits, Not Enough for Win

Nampa, ID - Saturday night, the Mustangs concluded the three game series against the Northwest Nazarene University. The Nighthawks nabbed the highly contested game 74-65, winning all three games against WNMU.

For the first time all season, the Mustangs had four players score in double digits. Marvis Odia led all Mustangs with 15pts, followed by Ian Hohenstein with 13pts, Cash Williams knocking down 11pts, and Tony Avalos grabbing 10pts himself.

The Mustangs ended the night with 17 assists and just 9 turnovers. Ball movement and protecting the ball was a huge factor in the offensive success.

"We played a full 40 minutes tonight. We showed up to play and five bad minutes was all the difference" said Head Coach Zane Gibson.

The Nighthawks capitalized on WNMU offensive miscues making their largest lead to 12 points.

In the first half, the Nighthawks found themselves on the opposite end. The Mustangs had their largest lead of the season, 8pts. Senior Andrew Leonard, went 3-4 beyond the arc, giving him 9pts on the night. Ending the first half, the Nighthawks and the Mustangs were all knotted up 30-30.

Getting his shots in, Odia started to get in the groove, knocking down 13 of his 15pts, including three 3-pointers in the second half.

"NNU is a very good team and well coached. Our team made some strides playing three games against them " concluded Gibson.

The Mustangs will fly home and prepare for the next trip to Odessa, TX, to playing against UTPB, Frebruary 6th!
