Mustangs Fall Despite Strong Second Half

Box Score Nampa, ID - The Mustangs tipped-off their three game series against Northwest Nazarene University, as the Nighthawks took the hard fought first game 68-59.

Down by 20 after the first possession of the second half, the Mustangs went on an 11-0 run. Ian Hohenstein took a critical charge to change the momentum. The Mustangs eventually cut the lead to just two points with the help of Cash Williams leading all scores with 22 points.

"We need to be tougher...board the ball, limit the turnovers, and make critical shots" said Head Coach Zane Gibson.

To end the first half, the Mustangs were down 18 and the Nighthawks led with 12 more rebounds, five more assists, and one less turnover.

In the second half, that wasn't the case as WNMU found themselves grabbing one more rebound, six more assists, and six less turnovers. Marvis Odia led all Mustangs with 9 rebounds, followed by Olamide Pedersen, grabbing 7.

"When you play tougher, you win rebounds, protect the ball, and put pressure on them to make shots." said Gibson. The Mustangs' strong second half, held NNU to a season low of 68 points.

Last week's GNAC Player of the Week, Ezekiel Alley, was held in check for most of the game, leading the Nighthawks with just 15 points.

Mustangs to highlight…Cash Williams (22pts, 2 reb, 5 ast, 5 stl), Olamide Pederse n (10 pts, 7 reb, 2 ast), Amarion Cash (8pts, 2 reb), and Marvis Odia (2pts, 9 reb, 2 ast).

Tomorrow night, the Mustangs look to come out strong in their second contest of three against NNU. Tip-off will be at 6pm MST.
