LCU Spoils Women's Basketball Senior Day

SILVER CITY, N.M. – In their final home game of the season, the Mustangs had the tall task of taking on the defending national champions in Lubbock Christian. LC shot over forty percent in three of the four quarters, taking a decisive 68-37 victory over WNMU Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
LC claimed the first basket of the game, but WNMU responded with a pair of three pointers off the hands of Amanda Perea (Albuquerque, New Mexico/La Cueva High School) and Paulina Rodriguez (Chihuahua, Mexico/Montverde Academy). After taking a four point lead, LC quickly regained control with success in the paint. Held to just five baskets, the Mustangs trailed by 16 after the opening quarter.
The Lady Chaps offense continued to roll, adding 16 points to their total in the second to go up by 25 at the break.
Things picked up for the Mustangs in the third, making the most of their time at the foul line shooting 6-for-10 to score 13 points while the Lady Chaps were 7-for-19 from the field.
Both teams were quiet in the final frame, WNMU was held to just seven points and LC had just 10, their lowest of the game.
Seniors, Paulina Rodriguez (Chihuahua, Mexico/Montverde Academy) and Kayla Clark (Mesa, Arizona/Dobson High School) led the Mustangs offense with 15 and 10 points respectively. Jenika Padilla (Las Vegas, NM/West Las Vegas) pulled down a team high 7 rebounds.
Women's Basketball finish the season 8-18 overall, and 5-17 in league play.
