Angelo State, Lubbock Christian Close out Mustang Home Slate; Senior Day Saturday

SILVER CITY, N.M. – After opening the 2020 half of the season against Angelo State, and Lubbock Christian, the Mustang Women's Basketball will close out their regular season against them this Thursday and Saturday on Drag's Court.
With Saturday marking the final home game of the season, Paulina Rodriguez (Chihuahua, Mexico/Montverde Academy), Amanda Perea (Albuquerque, New Mexico/La Cueva High School), Alicia Mardis (Ft. Lauderdale, FL), Taylor Allison (Little Elm, Texas/Denton High School) and Kayla Clark (Mesa, Arizona/Dobson High School) will be honored during the pregame as a senior sendoff.

LAST TIME OUT:
Travel partner, UT Permian Basin made their way to Silver City last Saturday looking for the season sweep. Back in November, UTPB claimed a 73-54 victory for their first conference win of the season. Both players who led their respective teams in scoring, were no longer listed the second time the two met.

Last time the Mustangs outscored the Falcons in the opening frame, but roles would be reversed this time around, as the Falcons went ahead 24-16 after the first.  WNMU answered back in the second, but still trailed by six at the half. A quiet fourth quarter by the Mustangs, led UTPB to take home the 79-64 triumph.

Kayla Clark (Mesa, Arizona/Dobson High School) notched a career high 31 points, shooting 10-for-20 from the floor and 11-for-14 at the foul line.

ANGELO STATE RAMBELLES (15-9, 12-8 LSC)
Tied for fifth in the current conference standings, the Rambelles split their last home weekend, falling to Texas A&M International, 76-86. Senior, De'Anira Moore led all scorers with 24 points, making it a double-double performance with 10 rebounds.

Although Moore missed two games this season, she has started the other 22, leading the offensive efforts with 17.2 points per game. Sinking over fifty percent of her shots, Moore ranks third in the conference in scoring, and second in field goal percentage.

WNMU took a single game off ASU back in 2014 on Drag's Court, since then the Belles have won every meeting, leading the series 8-1.

LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN LADY CHAPS (23-3, 17-3 LSC)
Defending national champions, Lubbock Christian will make their Drag's Court debut this Saturday. Tied for second with West Texas A&M, the Lady Chaps have held their own as a newcomer in the Lone Star Conference.

After opening the season with 14 straight wins, Eastern New Mexico snapped the streak with a 69-68 win in overtime in Portales. LC then fell to West Texas A&M and Texas A&M Commerce marking their only three losses this season. Since then, they have responded winning seven straight heading into the final weekend of league play.

Senior forward, Maddi Chitsey chipped in 18 points the first time these teams met, more than her 14.1 average for the season. Chitsey's contributions continue on the defense, averaging 6.5 boards, to go along with 50 blocks.
