Mustangs, Falcons Set for Second Meeting Saturday on Drag's Court

SILVER CITY, N.M.  – With just two weekends left in league play, the Mustang men's basketball team will get to spend it on the friendly confines of Drag's Court. This weekend will feature the Mustangs and travel partner UT Permian Basin, Saturday at 4 p.m. MST.
Live stats and video will be available at wnmumustangs.com

LAST TIME OUT:
On their final road trip of the season, the Mustangs faced off with the Rattlers of St. Mary's to open the weekend Thursday. Leading by nine at the half, StMU put together fifty plus points in the second half to surpass the 100 mark and claim victory. Elijah Holifield (Atlanta, GA/Pace Academy) recorded his second thirty point game of the season, going 12-for-18 from the field, along with seven three pointers, two assists, and one steal.
Top ranked St. Edward's then played host to the Mustangs on Saturday to close out the road trip. Even though the teams tallied the same amount of shots from the field, SEU had the upper hand at the foul line having nearly more than half the opportunities. Four players for WNMU finished in double-figures, led by Malik Sanders (Durham, NC/Smithfield-Selma ) with 13, Elijah Holifield (Atlanta, GA/Pace Academy) (12), Tony Avalos (Las Cruces, NM/Onate) (11) and Andrew Leonard (Tucson, AZ /Cienega ) (10).

UT PERMIAN BASIN FALCONS (15-13, 8-11 LSC)
These two teams met back on Nov. 23, 2019, making it nearly three months since the first meeting that needed extra minutes to determine a winner. After a last second free throw tied it up forcing an overtime period, UTPB outscored WNMU 16-9 to secure the 104-97 win.
Senior Pat Dembley put up 42 points in that game to lead the scoring efforts. The Minneapolis native, has 28 starts to his name so far this season, averaging 21.9 points per game while also sharing the wealth with 139 assists.
The third ranked offense in the LSC, UTPB averages nearly 85 points on their opponents but sits second to last in the defensive category – just above WNMU.
