Senior Spotlight - Jenika Padilla

Name: Jenika Padilla

A four-year Mustang and leader for the Women's Basketball team, Jenika Padilla is a role-model for younger student-athletes. Padilla, originally from Las Vegas, NM native and a defensive standout, averaged 21.3 minutes, 84 rebounds and 17 steals, in the 2019-2020 season.

"As I reflect on what it means to be a Mustang I realize it is truly a multifaceted thing. There are many different ways to look at it. There is the Mustang as a teammate who shows dedication, hard work, and leadership" said Padilla.

"Jen is the model student-athlete that we want in our women's basketball program. She gives 100% effort on the court and does not take any possessions off in practice or in games" said first year Head coach Josh Pace.

As the season approaches in just under two months, looks to be a leader on and off the court. "As a student who is representing WNMU in the community, a Mustang is giving back and being a positive role model. Academically, a Mustang shows responsibility, is diligent and engaged" Padilla continues.

Majoring in chemistry and minoring Cell Molecular Biology and Math, Padilla has aspirations of attending pharmacy school. When she has some spare time, she likes to work on various crafts,binge watch TV shows, and sing.

Padilla concludes "Finally, a Mustang as an individual is about discovering oneself, being driven even when no one is watching, and learning to speak up for yourself."

"Academically she is one of our best student-athletes and a good example for our younger student-athletes on how to balance the college life. She will be one of our captains this year and we are very happy to have her a part of our program" said Pace.
