No. 4 Texas A&M Commerce, UT Tyler on Tap for Women's Basketball

Silver City, N.M. – Riding high off two big conference wins while on the road, the Mustang women's basketball team look to keep the momentum going on the comfort of Drag's Court. No. 4 ranked Texas A&M Commerce will start the week off on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. MST, then newcomer UT Tyler will make their first appearance in Silver City with a 2 p.m. MST match up Saturday.

LAST TIME OUT:
If you weren't following along with Mustang women's basketball last weekend, you missed out on some exciting matches. With the men in Dallas, the women traveled up north to Denton to take on the Pioneers of Texas Woman's. Although the Mustangs held their opponent to single digits in the second, they trailed by a single point at the break. Both teams came out to play in the second half, but WNMU could not be stopped putting up 21 points to lead going into the final frame. Kayla Clark (Mesa, Arizona/Dobson High School) alongside Paulina Rodriguez (Chihuahua, Mexico/Montverde Academy) chipped in 31 of the teams 60 points, snapping their four game skid.
In the past, Wisdom Gym on the Tarleton campus did not bring much success for the Mustangs. Last Saturday, the Texans six game winning streak, along with the seven win history came to an end with a 52-48 victory for WNMU. Paulina Rodriguez (Chihuahua, Mexico/Montverde Academy) followed up her 15 point performance from the night prior, going 3-for-6 from deep, along with nine rebounds for a team high 13 points. Rodriguez was 8-of-13 from behind the arc on the weekend, tying her season high of five three pointers against TWU.

#4 TEXAS A&M COMMERCE LIONS (17-0, 11-0 LSC)
One of the few left in Division II with a flawless record, the Lions of Texas A&M Commerce enter this weekend's contest ranked No. 4 in the recent Women's Basketball Association Poll and No. 3 in the D2SIDA poll. Their success has come fairly easily outscoring their opponents by nearly 25 or more points, the smallest margin was a 70-64 victory over then No. 18 Southeastern Oklahoma State early on in the season.

Moving up two spots in the WBCA poll makes them the highest nationally ranked team in the LSC, as Lubbock Christian has dropped to No. 9 followed by West Texas A&M at No.21. The Lions are 5-0 against division opponents so far this season, while leading the LSC in offense. Junior, Chania Wright is a key part of her team's success converting on 90-of-210 shots from the field to average 13.6 points per contest, ninth highest in the conference. Her counterpart Alexis Bryant takes care of the defensive efforts pulling down just over eight boards per game, to go along with 30 blocks.

UT TYLER (3-12, 1-10 LSC)
New to not only the conference, but Division II the Patriots are holding their own through the transition. Recently, UTT overcame a six game drought with a double-overtime victory at Texas A&M International. The win marked their first over a conference opponent and third for the season. Since then UTT dropped a pair of matches to Oklahoma Christian and an overtime thriller to UAFS.

Junior, Kelsey Crouse has been a steady shooter for the Patriots going 43-of-111 (38.7%) from the floor while leading the team with the most time at the charity stripe going 60-of-77 (77.9%). Her 34 assists are second most on the team, along with an average of four boards per contest.
