Coplan and Guerra Record Hits in Loss to Javelinas

Kingsville, TX -- In the series finale, the Mustangs stepped up to plate against the #5 Texas A&M - Kingsville Javelinas hoping to take a game off before heading home.

A two-run shot by Kingsville gave them a 2-0 lead after the first inning.

It was Makayla Guerra (Silver City, N.M/Silver High School) who connected in the second, with a double down the right field line. Unfortunately she would be left stranded, leaving the team scoreless.

The Mustangs played steady defense behind the arm of Julia Vega (Tucson, AZ/University High School), keeping Kingsville quiet for two innings. In the bottom of the fourth Kingsville scored one on a wild pitch, followed by two more runs on a single to right field. Grisdey Paredes - Alvarez made a quick play at third for the line out, followed by a throw to first to tag the leading runner for the final two outs.

Reaching on a fielder's choice, Tycee Coplan (Taylor, AZ/Snowflake) recorded Western's second hit.

Unable to put it togther, the Mustangs fell 8-0 in six innings.

Julia Vega (Tucson, AZ/University High School) went the full 5.2 innings for Western as Kingsville scored eight runs on 12 hits. Vega walked four, with one wild pitch falling to 3-9 on the season.

The Mustangs will make the long trip home, but have the luxury of staying home for two series beginning with next week's rivalry match against Eastern New Mexico.
