2019 Football Schedule Released

Silver City, N.M—The Western New Mexico Football team released their 2019 schedule. The Mustangs schedule features five home games and five road games, including a week three non-conference matchup against Central Washington.
 
In his second season, Head Coach Frank Tristan and the Mustangs open their season on Saturday September 7 on the road at Ottawa University in Phoenix. This will be the first meeting between these two teams. The OUAZ Spirit finished 7-4 last season, 5-3 in conference, competing in the NAIA Sooner Athletic Conference.
 
Week two will feature the Mustangs against Division I Northern Arizona Lumberjacks in Flagstaff.
 
Fans should mark their calendars for September 21 as the team returns home to Ben Altamirano Field for their home opener against Central Washington at 12 p.m.
 
Western will then take their second road trip to begin conference play at West Texas A&M.
 
Western New Mexico will host their Homecoming on October 5 against UT- Permian Basin at Ben Altamirano Field. The Homecoming parade will take place in Downtown Silver City, leading up to the 2 p.m. game time.
 
The Mustangs will hit the road for a bout against the Rams of Angelo State on October 12.
 
Rivalry weekend comes to Silver City this year on October 19. Last season the Greyhounds of Eastern New Mexico took a decisive 55-9 victory over the Mustangs in Portales.
 
For the fifth time, Western will head to Commerce, Texas to take on the 2017 National Champions Texas A&M –Commerce Lions on October 26. The team will have the home advantage during the first weekend over November, playing host to Texas A&M – Kingsville on the 2nd.
 
The Battle of the Mustangs will happen at Midwestern State this season on November 9.
 
Western New Mexico will close out the regular season against 2018 Lone Star Conference Champion and NCAA Tournament Participant Tarleton State on Ben Altamirano Field on November 16. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m.
The NCAA Playoffs will begin on November 23 on campus at the highest seeds in the region.
 
This year's NCAA National Championship game will be hosted by the Lone Star Conference in conjunction with McKinney Independent School District Stadium in McKinney, Texas. The Division II Football Championship game is set for Dec. 21, 2019.
