Women's Basketball Set to Host Cameron in Conference Match Up

Silver City, N.M. – The Western New Mexico Women's Basketball team returns to the familiar confines of Drag's Court to host their first conference matchup of the season. Head Coach Lauren Unger and her Mustangs will welcome the Aggies of Cameron, Saturday Dec. 7, with a tip-off time of 2 p.m. MST.

A LOOK BACK:
It's a quick turn-around for the Mustangs, but step back into division play, after an exhibition match against the Aggies of New Mexico State Wednesday in Las Cruces. It was a tight contest for a majority of the game. While NMSU outscored the Mustangs in every quarter, the first three quarters were separated by no more than four points.
However, WNMU lost a little juice in the fourth and final quarter, falling behind early. In her hometown, Kaela Chavez (Las Cruces, New Mexico/Centennial High School) would allow her team to make it to the 13-point mark, scoring back-to-back threes, to remain a perfect across the board, 3-for-3 from beyond the arc, along with 2-2 at the free throw line to finish with a team high 11-points.
Alexis Jones (Dallas, TX/) and Paulina Rodriguez (Chihuahua, Mexico/Montverde Academy) each added ten points, followed by Rachel Francisco (Seattle, WA/Holy Names Academy) with nine who was also a flawless 3-for-3 from deep.

SCOUTING THE AGGIES:
The Aggie women boast a 1-5 record so far this season, with their lone win coming early on against Adams State, 76-66. Since then they have dropped the last four matches, two of which were to top-25 opponents.
Leading the Aggie offense is sophomore guard, Maighan Hedge. A primary starter, Hedge averages 32.2 minutes a game, putting in 15.2 points. She also posts double figures in rebounds and assists, with 21 and 14 respectively. From floor Hedge is shooting 35.8 percent, 36.4 from deep, and 87.5 from the free throw line.
Redshirt senior Amaka Nwakamma averages 11-points of her own, while shooting 42.1 percent from the floor.
Saturday's game between the two teams could tie the overall series, as Cameron leads 4-3. Last season the Mustangs swept the series, taking a 69-56 win in Silver City.

Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. MST on Drag's Court. Can't make the game? Follow along with live stats and live stream at wnmumustangs.com
