Cameron Enters Drag's Court for Men's Home Opener

Silver City, N.M. – For the first time since the start of the season, the Mustang Men's Basketball team will not have to travel this weekend as they play host to the Aggies of Cameron in a conference matchup. The men's team started their season on the road at Northern New Mexico back on Nov. 1 for the first of what would be nine games on the road.

A LOOK BACK:
Just before the Thanksgiving break, WNMU opened conference play in Odessa at UT Permian Basin, taking the Falcons into overtime.
The teams went back and forth up until a series of three-pointers gave way to a Mustang lead of eight going into the break. UTPB shot nearly fifty percent to outscore the Mustangs by eight to fill in the gap from the previous half. WNMU held an 88-87 lead with just thirty seconds remaining, but a last second free throw tied it up. One last WNMU effort fell just short forcing overtime.
The Falcons shot 3-4 from the floor, and a perfect 10-10 at the foul line to outscore WNMU 16-9 to take a 104-97 win.
Eddie Giron (Monterrey, Mexico/Harmony Science Academy) led with 20-points, shooting 7-13 from the floor and 6-7 from the foul line, along with a team high nine rebounds. Tony Avalos (Las Cruces, NM/Onate) chipped in 19-points, four rebounds, and four assists.

SCOUTING THE AGGIES:
Saturday's contest will mark the conference opener for the Cameron Aggies, who are 1-5 on the young season. After opening the season 0-5, the CU men captured their first victory over Thanksgiving break with a narrow 73-71 win over Central Oklahoma.
Three players currently average double digits scoring, with sophomore guard Brock Schreiner leading the way with 13 ppg, shooting 32.5 percent from the field, and 73.1 percent from the free throw line, averaging 33.8 minutes a game. His 12 assists are a team high, and has posted double-digits in all but one game so far this season.
Tyler Williams and Kendall Scott each average just over 11-points per game, with Scott leading the defensive efforts with 49 rebounds, 16 of which have come offensively.
In the overall series Cameron leads 5-2. WNMU claimed their second win over CU in their second meeting last season in Silver City, 80-77. The first meeting between the two, saw the Mustangs win by just three points back in 2004.
As a team, the Aggies average 67.0 points per game, shooting 38.8 from the floor, 39.8 from deep and 71.6 from the foul line. On the defensive end, they average just under 35 rebounds a game.

Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. MST on Drag's Court. Can't make the game? Follow along with live stats and live stream at wnmumustangs.com
