Laredo/Kingsville, Tex. – Western women's basketball heads to Laredo and Kingsville, Texas this weekend for two road matches against Texas A&M International and Texas A&M Kingsville. This will be one of the longer road trips of the season for the Mustangs, and they will look to snap a two-game losing streak and notch their first conference win of the season.

MUSTANGS TO WATCH:
Alicia Mardis (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) – 13.3 PPG | 34-66 FG – 51.5% | Avg. 9.0 RBG (2nd in LSC) | 12 steals

Kyanne Kowatch (Tularosa, NM/) – 6.9 PPG | 11 assists | 7 steals

A LOOK BACK:
In a battle of the Mustangs last Saturday, Midwestern State's shooters were sharp from the start. In a similar trend to the game against Cameron the week prior, WNMU found themselves down early and needing to play catch up. Western was outscored 16-4 in the opening frame, and while they matched up with their opponents the rest of the night, the deficit was too much to overcome.
Alicia Mardis (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) and Kyanne Kowatch (Tularosa, NM/) chipped in 10-points each, along with seven from Paulina Rodriguez (Chihuahua, Mexico/Montverde Academy) to lead the WNMU offense.

SCOUTING THE DUSTDEVILS:
New to the conference, but not an unfamiliar face for the Mustangs are the Dustdevils of Texas A&M International (TAMIU). With a win over Texas A&M Kingsville last weekend in Laredo, the Dustdevils sit 5-4 on the season and 2-1 in conference play.
After opening the season with back-to-back losses, TAMIU followed up with wins over Northern New Mexico and New Mexico Highlands. Stepping into conference play the Dustdevils claimed their first with a double-overtime victory over UAFS, 75-72 and grabbed their second last weekend 61-52 over TAMUK.
Led by Patrycja Jaworska, the junior guard from Wroclaw, Poland averages just under 14-points per game shooting 44.7 from the field. Defensively, she averages 3.1 rebounds a game, and has recorded a steal in all nine games played so far this season.
Fellow junior, Nicole Heyn gets it done on both sides of the ball for the Dustdevils , averaging 13.8 points while leading the team with 44 rebounds, 4.9 a game, 24 steals and 31 assists.
In the overall series, TAMIU leads 3-1 with the last meeting back on Nov. 20, 2012.

SCOUTING THE JAVELINAS:
The Javelinas of Texas A&M Kingsville will also be looking for their first conference win this weekend. Sitting at 1-4 overall, and 0-3 in league play, TAMUK rides a three game losing streak all to conference opponents.
Last season the teams split the series, each stealing wins at the others home court. Overall, TAMUK holds two more wins over the Mustangs since joining the LSC in 2016.
Ravae Payne Is a consistent starter for the Javelinas, averaging 11-points while dishing out 17 assists and snagging nine steals. The junior guard is shooting 45.7 from the field, and tallied a season high 23 points last weekend at TAMIU.

The Mustangs will take on the Dustdevils Thursday at 5:30 p.m. CST in Laredo, followed by a 2 p.m. CST game on Saturday against Texas A&M Kingsville in Kingville to close out the year.
