Match Up of the Mustangs Set for Saturday

Silver City, N.M. – For the second time in as many weeks, the Mustang men's basketball team will have the luxury of playing on their home court, as they play host to the Mustangs of Midwestern State. Game time is set for 4 p.m. MST on Drag's Court.

The meeting of the Mustangs dates back to the early 80's and 90's, with a break in between before the teams met again upon WNMU joining the Lone Star Conference in 2016. In the overall series, WNMU trails 12-1, with their lone win coming in 2018 in Silver City.

MUSTANGS TO WATCH:
Elijah Holifield (Atlanta, GA/Pace Academy) – 14.4 ppg | 45.6 % FG | 44.7 % 3 PT | 4.8 rebounds/game
Andrew Leonard (Tucson, AZ /Cienega ) – 11.3 ppg | 37.1% FG | 37.7% 3PT | 92.3% FT | 19 assists (team high)
Rodney Simon (Boston, MA/Randolph ) – 9.4 ppg | 61.4% FG | 5.1 rebounds/game

A LOOK BACK:
WNMU clashed with the Cameron Aggies last Saturday for their first home game of the season. The Mustang men led for a majority of the first half, up until the five minute mark. With two minutes remaining, CU knocked in a three to take a 28-27 lead and would hold on to going into the locker room.

The second half saw the teams trade points throughout, never going up by more than four points. That was until CU's leading scorer caught fire leading them to a five point lead with a minute left to play. The WNMU offense would fall quiet, unable to close the gap falling 65-59, and 0-2 in conference play.

SCOUTING MIDWESTERN STATE:
Senior guard, D'Monta Harris keeps pace for the MSU offense, averaging 17.5 points per game, while shooting 47.7 percent from the floor, and nearly fifty percent from beyond the arc. Harris has posted double-digits in all but one game, with a season high 36 against Central Oklahoma. His average of 7.6 rebounds also leads the team, with 53 total so far on the season.

Fellow senior Darius Thompson is another go-to for MSU, shooting 50.0 percent from the field to average just over 15-points a game. Scoring in double-figures in every game so far this season, Thompson leads the team with 29 assists, and 13 steals.

Despite being 0-7 so far this season, the Mustangs have held their own against some tough opponents, including a 80-79 loss to UT Permian Basin last week, and a 75=64 loss to #7 West Texas A&M.

Out of the 18-team pool, MSU Texas was picked to finish 12th overall in the LSC Preseason Poll.

Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. MST on Drag's Court. Can't make the game? Follow along with live stats and live stream at wnmumustangs.com
