Men's Basketball Set to Open Conference Play at UTPB

Odessa, TX – Interim Head Coach Matt Enriquez will step back into a coaching role for the Mustang men's basketball team, as they travel to game seven out of nine on the road to open conference play at UT Permian Basin Saturday in Odessa, Texas.

WEEK of 11/09- 11/15 RECAP:
The Mustang men spent all of last week on the road, playing a total of four games over a span of seven days. The team opened the regular season in Durango, Colorado with a LSC / RMAC Conference Challenge. In game one, hosts Fort Lewis scored 44 points to the Mustangs 34 to take a 91-78 victory. A time change pushed game two of the weekend back a few hours, as the Cowboys of New Mexico Highlands claimed a 102-75 victory.

Nearly three days later in Las Vegas, N.M. the Mustangs would keep up with NMHU on their home court just shy of their first win, 74-71 in favor of NMHU. Continuing on to Hobbs, WNMU rallied behind 25 and 22 points from Andrew Leonard (Tucson, AZ /Cienega ) and Elijah Holifield (Atlanta, GA/Pace Academy) respectively to earn their first victory over Univ. of the Southwest, 91-77.

LOOKING AHEAD:
UT Permian Basin (4-2)
After starting the season 0-2 with losses to Concordia Irvine and Ferris State, the Falcons of UTPB bounced back into the winner's column with an 82-62 win over Wayne State. The team followed up with two wins in Odessa playing host to Western State Colorado and Adams State at the LSC-RMAC Conference Challenge. Just two days after the WNMU defeated the University of the Southwest, UTPB would snag their fourth win in a row with an 84-77 win over USW.

Senior guard, Pat Dembley has six starts to his name in six games played. Shooting 48.6 % from the field, and 48.7 % from beyond the arc, Dembley has already surpassed the 100-point mark to average 20.5 ppg. Defensively, he averages 3.3 rebounds a game while leading the team in assists with 28 and steals (12).
Senior forward Miles Washington is at the forefront of the Falcons defense. His 38 rebounds put his average at 6.3 per game, while also leading the team with 7.0 blocks, and second on the team in steals with six.

History between the two teams dates back to 2014 prior to the Mustangs joining the Lone Star Conference, with UTPB holding a 7-0 series lead.
