Men's Basketball Falls in Game Two on Day Two

Durango, CO – A last minute time change forced the Mustang men's basketball to await their fate against New Mexico Highlands in game two of the conference challenge. Despite shooting percentages being fairly close, the Cowboys outscored the Mustangs 55-38 in the second half on their way to a 102-75 win Sunday night.

Rodney Simon (Boston, MA/Randolph ) – 17 points | 7-9 FG | 3-3 FT | 7 rebounds
Michael McDougal (Jacksonville, FL /White ) – 11 points | 4-9 FG | 2-2 FT | 4 rebounds | 5 assists

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • On a fast break, Rodney Simon (Boston, MA/Randolph ) connected on a jumper to put the Mustangs on the board.
  • NMHU knocked down three, three pointers to take an early 14-4 lead.
  • Eddie Giron (Monterrey, Mexico/Harmony Science Academy) grabbed the offensive rebound, and the layup to cut into the NMHU lead with just under 10 minutes to play in the half.
  • A jumper from Tony Avalos (Las Cruces, NM/Onate), followed by two successful free throws from Andrew Leonard (Tucson, AZ /Cienega ) had the Mustangs down by 10 at the half.
  • Out of the break, the Cowboys went on a 18-0 run going up by 29, before WNMU would score just their fifth points of the half.
  • NMHU would lead by as many as 32.
  • A three from George Mosialos (Larissa, Greece/Nikos Mpakogiannis), followed by a final shot from Michael McDougal (Jacksonville, FL /White ) put the Mustangs over the 70-point mark.
  • 32-points came off the WNMU bench, along with 17 second chance points.
UP NEXT:
The Mustangs will have another chance at the Cowboys in the next few days, as they travel to Las Vegas, N.M. for a midweek matchup Nov. 13 with a 6 p.m. start time.
