Volleyball Home Stand Features DBU, TSU on Drag's Court

Silver City, N.M. – Back home from one of their shorter road trips of the season, Western New Mexico volleyball enters the home stretch of the season with just six regular season matches remaining. The Mustangs come off a 1-1 weekend, defeating the Greyhounds in four sets before falling to West Texas in a tightly contested three sets.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS:
DALLAS BAPTIST PATRIOTS (13-11, 5-7 LSC)
  • The Patriots enter Drag's Court after going 1-1 at home last weekend.
  • DBU held on for a three set win over UT Tyler on night one, before falling in straight sets to the No. 23 ranked A&M Commerce Lions.
  • So far this season the Patriots hold a 2-6 record on the road.
  • Historically, the Mustangs have only met with the Patriots on two other occasions, both in Silver City. In 2005, the Mustangs dominated with two straight set win to hold a 2-0 series lead.
  • Currently DBU leads the conference in digs per set with 18.22 on average.
  • Emma Eakin averages 2.95 kills per set, placing her 12th overall in the conference ranks.
  • Teammate, Brooke Clark adds to the offensive threats with 2.77 kills per set.
  • Behind the conference leading digs, is senior defensive specialist Keely Hardin. Her 4.02 digs per set is 8th highest in the LSC.
TARLETON TEXANS (13-9, 7-5 LSC)
  • For the first time in three games, the Texans are on the road after posting a 1-2 record in Stephenville.
  • TSU dropped back-to-back four set matches to West Texas A&M, and A&M Commerce, before squeaking out a five set win over UT Tyler.
  • Since the first meeting back in 2008, the Texas have won the last nine matches over WNMU. Seven of those nine came in straight sets.
  • WNMU has only defeated the Texans once, in the very first meeting in 2008 at a neutral site in five sets.
  • TSU dominated both meetings last season, on their way to a South Central Regional title, and appearance in the Elite Eight.
  • Tatyana Tuialii-Umi leads the team with 3.06 kills, 9th highest in the LSC.
  • Sofia Tonga has amassed 107.0 blocks so far this season, averaging 1.22 a set. As a team the Texans rank second overall in blocks averaging 2.32 a set.
  • Assisting in the defensive efforts in Michaela Rodriguez. Rodriguez has registered 405 digs so far this season to average just under five digs a set.
MUSTANGS TO WATCH:
  • Sophomore Bria Augustine (Bell Flower, CA/Mayfair High School), is scary in the front row for the Mustangs averaging 3.21 kills per set to hit .210 so far this season.
  • Senior Erin Moss (Kailua, HI/University Laboratory School) follows up with just under three kills per set, leading the team with 167 kills so far.
  • Senior setter, Sarah Campoli (Weatherford, TX/Azle High School) surpassed 350 assists, sitting at 5.65 assists per set, 10th in the LSC.
  • Senior libero Gabi Lau's (Kailua, HI/University Laboratory School) 4.32 digs per set is sixth in the LSC.
