Angelo State and Lubbock Christian Up Next for Mustang Volleyball

Silver City, N.M. – After going 0-2 on the road last weekend, the Mustang volleyball team returns home for two games against familiar foes, Angelo State and Lubbock Christian. Earlier this season Angelo State and Lubbock Christian both prevailed on their home courts to take the first game of the series.
 
MUSTANGS TO WATCH:
  • Bria Augustine (Bell Flower, CA/Mayfair High School) led with 10 kills, hitting .417 in the first meeting with ASU.
    • The sophomore outside hitter has recorded 93 kills on 277 attempts to average 3.10/ set this season.
    • Last weekend against MSU Texas, Augustine tallied a season high 18 kills.
  • Senior libero Gabi Lau (Kailua, HI/University Laboratory School) has amassed 195 digs this season, averaging 4.15/set, 7th best in the conference rankings.
    • Three time so far this season Lau has tallied more than 20 digs.
  • Fellow senior, Hannah Tishlarich (Elk Grove, CA/Pleasant Grove High School) holds a team best .304 hitting percentage on the season with 49 kills.
    • Behind the service line, Tishlarich holds a tie for service aces with 10.
  • Sarah Campoli (Weatherford, TX/Azle High School) racked up 306 assists so far this season, with the 7th best average at 6.12 assists a set.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT:
ANGELO STATE BELLES (17-1, 9-0 LSC)
  • Unbeaten in conference play so far this season, the Belles swept the first meeting between the two teams this season.
    • In that match ASU hit .356 for the match, while holding the Mustangs to a .133 hitting percentage.
    • Kailyn Gilbreath led with 14 kills in the match, helping her team to their 12th win of the season.
  • In the overall series, ASU leads 9-2.
    • The last time WNMU defeated the Belles was back to Oct. 13, 2017 when the Mustangs prevailed in five sets on Drag's Court.
  • Since the first meeting between the two teams, ASU extended their win streak to nine with straight set wins over UT Tyler, Eastern New Mexico, West Texas A&M and a four set win at A&M Commerce.
    • The Belles lead the LSC in hitting percentage (.292) while holding opponents to a .119 clip.
    • The .119 opponent hitting percentage also plays into the 8.22 assist average opponents have against the Belles.
    • This season opponents have averaged just 9.23 kills per set while the Belles average nearly 15 kills.
    • Adding to their offensive stats, ASU ranks second in service aces averaging just under two a set.
  • Kailyn Gilbreath is the go-to for ASU, leading the LSC with a .454 clip, contributing 3.89 points per set.
  • Dishing it out are junior Lindsey Ledyard and senior Meghan Parker who have 5.25 and 4.90 assists respectively.
 
LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN LADY CHAPS (9-9. 3-6 LSC)
  • The Lady Chaps took the first meeting with the Mustangs in four sets. Since then they have gone 2-4.
    • Last weekend they snapped a three-game losing streak defeating Eastern New Mexico in four sets.
    • For the Mustangs, Bria Augustine (Bell Flower, CA/Mayfair High School) had a double-double with 12 kills, 13 digs. Gabi Lau (Kailua, HI/University Laboratory School) had 24 digs and 5 assists in the loss.
    • As a team, WNMU racked up 10.0 blocks, five of which came at the hands of Delaney Seitz (Hillsboro, OR/Century High School).
  • LCU look to their three offensive threats: Avery Moore, Ashley VanFleet, and Hannah Thomas
    • Avery Moore – 2.89 kills |.243 hitting percentage
    • Ashley VanFleet – 2.70 kills
    • Hannah Thomas – 2.67 kills
  • Sophomore setter Bradi Marshall sits second in the LSC rankings with an impressive 9.61 assists per set.
  • Defensively Maddie DeGuire leads the team with 345 digs on the season for a 4.79 average. She also leads the team with 27 service aces.
 
The Mustangs open the weekend Thursday at 6 p.m. against Angelo State, followed by a 1 p.m. matchup Saturday against Lubbock Christian. Both matches will be played on Drag's Court.
