Lady Mustangs at Cameron and Midwestern for Road Series

Silver City, N.M-- Coming off a tough weekend at home, the Western New Mexico Women's Basketball team hits the road to take on Cameron and Midwestern State to continue conference play. 

Cassandra Vickery (Tularosa, NM/Tularosa) combined for 23 points on the weekend, 14 of which came against top-ranked West Texas. Vickery also tallied three steals, and six rebounds in the loss to WT. 

The Mustangs are 5-6 overall (1-3 LSC) and have held their own against top opponents so far this season. Averaging 56.5 points per game while holding their opponents to a 58.5 margin, Western maintains a 37.3 field goal percentage, 28.5 percent from beyond the arc, and 67.7 percent from the charity stripe. Western out rebounds their opponents by a slim margin, 35.0 to 34.7 percent, on top of 8.5 steals per game and 1.4 blocks. 

Cameron Aggies: 

On the women's side, the Aggies come in at 4-8 overall, and 1-3 in Lone Star Conference play. They came away last weekend 1-1 after defeating Tarleton State. 

Under third year Head Coach Emma Andrews, Maighan Hedge leads the Aggie offense, averaging 15.0 points per game. Ava Battese had a big night against Tarleton, draining 27 points on 9-15 field shooting and 8-13 from beyond the arc. The Aggies lead the all time series with Western 4-1, winning both matchups last season. As a team Cameron averages 70.7 points per game, shooting 39.5 percent from the field, 35.1 percent from deep and 65.6 percent from the foul line. 

Midwestern State: 

The Mustangs of MSU- Texas enter the weekend 3-8 overall (0-4 LSC). Head Coach Noel Johnson is in her 11th season and the winningest coach in program history. Hannah Reynolds   11.9 points per game, shooting 50 percent from the field and grabbing six rebounds per game. 

As a team MSU -Texas averages 70.0 points per game while holding their opposition to 62.5 points. It will truly be a battle of the Mustangs, as the offensive numbers fall just within a few points of each other. MSU Texas averages a 42.3 percent from the field, 25.1 percent from the perimeter and 68.8 percent from the free throw line.
