Football Unable to Maintain Lead in Loss to UT-Permian Basin

Odessa, Texas--The Mustang football team went head to head with the Falcons of UT-Permian Basin under the Saturday night lights. Both teams were winless coming in.
 
The Falcons struck first on their second drive of the game, scoring from 11-yards out to give them an early 7-0 lead.
 
Blayne Armstrong (Ozark, MO/Marshfield) would answer with a Mustang touchdown, connecting with Evan Beebe (Chula Vista, CA/Mater Dei Catholic) on a 14-yard pass to tie the game. In one last effort to score before the half, a 46-yard field goal attempt by the Mustangs was blocked by Austin Pierce, followed by Tristen Thompson picking off Armstrong at the Falcon three-yard-line.
 
Both teams would go scoreless throughout the second quarter, going into the half tied at 7.
 
The third quarter saw, Armstrong find Beebe again on a 6-yard pass, giving the Mustangs a 14-7 lead. Shortly after, Isaiah Pierre (Miami, FL/Hollywood Hills) would return the Falcon punt 74 yards increasing the Western lead to 20-7.
 
The Falcons would close in on the Mustang lead on a 14-yard pass to Kristian Brown midway through the fourth quarter.
 
With seconds left in the game, Marquis Simmons rushed for 9-yards to give the Falcons their third touchdown of the game and pushing them over for a final score of 21-20.

The Falcons gain their first win of the season, while the Mustangs drop to 0-4 on the season, 0-2 in conference play.
 
The Mustangs will return home for the Homecoming game against Angelo State, next Saturday at Ben Altamirano Stadium. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. (MT).
