Football Returns Home to Kickoff Conference Play

Mustangs Take on West Texas A&M in Home Opener

Silver City, N.M—Mustang football returns home to Ben Altamarino Field this Saturday to take on the Buffs of West Texas A&M. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. (MT).

The Mustangs were off last week, after returning home from their non-conference matchup against the University of Idaho Vandals. The Mustangs found themselves up early, taking a 10-7 lead in the first quarter. Idaho stepped on the gas and never looked back, defeating the Mustangs 56-10.

This will be the first Division II matchup for the Mustangs, as they look to start off their portion of conference play on a high note.

West Texas leads the all-time series 5-3. Last year's meeting between these two teams came at the end of the season. The Mustangs traveled to Canyon, Texas to take on the Buffs on their home field, coming out victorious, 21-17.

SCOUTING THE BUFFS
West Texas A&M (1-2, 0-1 LSC)
The Buffs look for redemption this weekend after dropping the conference opener, on their home field, last week against the Texans of Tarleton State 44-7.

The Buffs are led by sophomore running back, Duke Cater IV who went for a season-high 22 carries for 32 yards last weekend. Mitch Hood handles the quarterback duties with 392 yards and 2 touchdowns on the season. Senior transfer, James Clark had 13 tackles against Tarleton including a tackle for loss and pass breakup.
