Mustangs Host Greyhounds in Midweek Conference Matchup

Silver City, N.M.-- In-state rival, Eastern New Mexico comes to Silver City for a midweek matchup against the Mustangs. First serve is set for tomorrow, October 23 at 6 p.m. on Drag's Court.

The two teams met up back in September, with the Greyhounds coming out on top in straight sets. The Mustangs struggled to get going, relying heavily on their other hitters that match with starter Bria Augustine (Bell Flower, CA/Mayfair High School) who suffered an injury during warm-ups. Luckily for the Mustangs, freshman Bria Augustine (Bell Flower, CA/Mayfair High School) is back in action and currently leads the conference in kills per set with 263 total on the season, averaging 3.70 per set in only 71 sets played. The freshman also has 188 digs on the season, averaging 2.65 per set.

Defensively, Gabi Lau (Kailua, HI/University Laboratory School) had her 11th, 20 plus dig performance this weekend in the win over Cameron bringing her total to 428 on the season, averaging 4.86 digs per set in 88 sets played good enough for fourth place in the conference rankings.

The Greyhounds will look to break a four-game losing streak with their last three matches being straight set sweeps.

Offensively, sophomore outside hitter Jasmine Gannon leads the Greyhounds with 294 kills on the season for a .188 hitting percentage, and an average of 3.38 kills per set. Dishing out the sets is senior setter, Kaitlyn Kluna who ranks seventh in the conference with 5.52 assists per set.

Defensively, redshirt-senior libero Alba Ontiveros comes in two places behind Lau at number six in the conference with 4.64 digs per set with 404 total on the season.

The Greyhounds sit two games ahead of the Mustangs in the conference standings, and hold the eighth and final spot for the conference tournament. A win for the Mustangs will help them get back in the conversation for the post season.
