Silver City, N.M -- Mustang volleyball hits the road to take on the Mustangs of Midwestern State, followed by the Aggies of Cameron in the second round of conference matches.
Western played host to these teams earlier this season, coming out victorious 3-2 over Cameron, and 3-1 over Midwestern State.
Despite sitting out a couple of matches due to injury, freshman
Bria Augustine (Bell Flower, CA/Mayfair High School) continues to hold the number two spot in conference standings for kills per set, with 227 kills on the season, averaging 3.55. Classmate,
Madelynn Culp (Vancouver, WA/Union High School) comes in at number eight in assists per set, averaging 5.31.
Number 4 and 5 in the conference rankings for digs will go head-to-head this weekend as Brittnee Altic (#4) from Cameron and
Gabi Lau (Kailua, HI/University Laboratory School) (#5) meet up. Altic holds a very small 4.84 advantage over Lau's 4.83 average,
MUSTANG vs. MUSTANG:
Western will travel to Wichita Falls, Texas first to meet up with Midwestern State who is currently riding of a 3-2 win over Eastern New Mexico this past weekend, breaking a three game losing streak.
The Mustangs are led by Erin Richburg who averages 2.44 kills per set, followed by Raven Presely with 2.21. Samantha Manio leads the defensive efforts with 2.78 digs per set.
ATTACKING THE AGGIES:
Saturday features the Mustangs taking on the Aggies of Cameron University. The last time these two teams met up, Western came from behind to top the Aggies 3-2.
The Aggies are led by the defensive efforts of Brittnee Altic , who not only averages 4.84 digs per set but also ranks third in the conference averaging 0.41 aces per set with 37 total on the season.
Offensively, the Aggies rely on Katherine Manning who dishes out 5.11 assists per set, to Paige Dixon who leads the team with 2.46 kills per set.
