Four Score in Double-Figures at Orediggers

GOLDEN, Colo. – Led by 14 points from freshman Jordan Enriquez (El Paso, TX/Bel Air ), the Western New Mexico University men's basketball team stayed with Colorado School of Mines for a while with four players in double-figure before the Orediggers took over in the second half to record the 84-54 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference victory Saturday night.

WNMU (1-23, 1-18 RMAC) received strong nights from Enriquez, junior Steven Loucks (Yuma, AZ/Cibola) and freshman Willie McCray (Clovis, NM/Clovis/Westwind Prep Academy ) each posting 12 points, while junior Emery Range (Grand Rapids, MI/Willow Canyon) rounded out the players to reach double-figures pouring in 10 points.

CSM (19-6, 14-5 RMAC) countered with a 22 point game by Luke Schroepfer as the Orediggers drilled 10 three-pointers.

Range and Loucks combined on the first five points to push WNMU to the early 5-3 advantage. After CSM had built the lead to five, Range and McCray answered with three-pointers to leave the Mustangs down just one, 16-15, near the midway point of the opening half.

The Orediggers then reeled off a 12-1 run to move in front 28-16 with seven minutes to go before halftime. WNMU didn't go away as Enriquez poured in four points and McCray added a layup to trim the deficit back to six.

CSM had yet another run left in the half as they pushed the lead back to 12, 38-26, at the break.

WNMU got back to within 12 a few times early in the second half, but that would be as close as they would get the rest of the way.

Senior Makhtar Fall (Morocco/Ecole Al Jabr) led the team in rebounds pulling down six, while also scoring six points. WNMU came away with eight steals led by three from Loucks.

While Schroepfer paced the Orediggers in scoring, Caleb Waitsman had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

WNMU went 20-61 (33) from the field, 4-18 (22) from three and 10-13 (77) at the foul line. CSM made 29-62 (47) from the field, 10-22 (46) from three and 16-21 (76) at the charity stripe.

WNMU returns home this coming week as they will host Adams State University on Friday night starting at 7:30 p.m.
