LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The Western New Mexico University softball team concluded the Desert Stinger Sunday falling to Cal State University San Marcos, 11-1, in five innings.

The Lady Mustangs (3-8) opened the game strong plating a run in the first. With one out, Linzy Granger (Carlsbad, NM/Carlsbad) delivered a solo home run for the early 1-0 advantage.

CSU San Marcos then came back with two in the second, four in the third and then five in the fourth to take an 11-1 lead and eventual victory.

WNMU threatened in the third with singles by Linzy Granger (Carlsbad, NM/Carlsbad) and Thailyza Ramirez (Carlsbad, NM/Carlsbad), but a double play ended the inning.

CSU San Marcos held an 11-3 edge on hits. Rodriguez led CSU San Marcos with three RBI and had a pair of hits. In the circle, Breanna Aker (El Mirage, AZ/Apollo) started for WNMU and ended up with the loss (0-2) after going 1.1 innings and allowing two earned runs. MaryJo Granger (Carlsbad, NM/Carlsbad) tossed the final 2.2 innings and gave up five earned runs. Wilkinson went all five innings for CSU San Marcos to pick up the victory.

WNMU will return home this coming weekend as they will face Colorado State-Pueblo and Chadron State to open RMAC play beginning on Saturday at 10 a.m. against Colorado State-Pueblo.
