TEMPE, Ariz. – Facing yet another difficult Division I school, the Western New Mexico University men's basketball team fell to Arizona State University, 102-34, Saturday in exhibition action.

Brandon Tanter (Long Beach, CA/Los Angeles Prep) helped get the first points on the board for the Mustangs and tie the game at three just over a minute in with a three-pointer. Josey Mills (Alamogordo, NM/Alamogordo) provided the second tie of the game on the next trip down the floor with a jumper at five-all. Following a free throw by Tanter and a jumper by Carter Aby (San Tan Valley, AZ/Combs), that would end up being all the scoring for the Mustangs in the first half.

The Sun Devils ended up taking a 17-8 lead and finishing the half on a 37-0 run for a 54-8 lead at halftime. Steven Loucks (Yuma, AZ/Cibola) broke the run a few minutes into the second half with a jumper in the paint. That would be as close as the Mustangs would get the rest of the way.

Arizona State connected on 41-of-75 (54.7) from the floor, while WNMU did their best at the foul line making 10-of-16. Jordan Enriquez (El Paso, TX/Bel Air ) led the Mustangs with seven points, while Tanter and Aby added six points apiece. Tanter led in rebounds with five, while Aby collected two steals.

The Sun Devils had six players in double-digit scoring led by Obinna Oleka's 18 points and 12 rebounds.

WNMU will open the regular season this coming Friday when they will play at Oklahoma Panhandle State beginning at 7 p.m. Mountain Standard Time.
