SILVER CITY, N.M. – The Western New Mexico University volleyball team returns home this weekend to face Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opponents Fort Lewis and Colorado Mesa.
WNMU will host Fort Lewis on Friday night as the Skyhawks enter the match with a record of 1-10 overall and 1-2 in the RMAC. Fort Lewis defeated New Mexico Highlands, 3-2, back on Sep. 24 for their first win of the season. Recently, Colorado Mesa defeated Fort Lewis, 3-1, this past Tuesday in Grand Junction. Ashley Wells leads the team in kills with 134, while Heather Danny leads in assists with 258. Defensively, Jenna Kinzer leads in digs with 151, while Kristin Stephan has 25 block assists.
The Lady Mustangs will face Colorado Mesa on Saturday as the Mavericks will enter with a 9-2 overall record and 2-1 mark in the RMAC. Prior to their loss against CSU-Pueblo, Colorado Mesa had won six straight defeating Tarleton State, St. Edward's, Eastern New Mexico, McMurry, Dixie State and New Mexico Highlands. Christian Otzen leads the team in kills with 129, while Jordyn Moody has also accumulated 448 assists. Defensively, Sunni Rae Baird has 197 digs, while Abby Ney leads in total blocks with 29.
Bobbi Bayer (Granby, CO/Eddyville Blakesburg ) continues to lead the 8-2 Lady Mustangs with 120 kills, followed by 110 from
Angelina Pulu (Long Beach, CA/Robert A. Millikan High School).
Alyssa Meihack (Fallon, NV/Churchill County High School) has dished out 408 assists, while defensively, Pulu leads in digs with 151 and
Kaysee Pilgrim (Phoenix, AZ/Barry Goldwater) has 29 total blocks.
WNMU will play both teams at 7 p.m. each night, with Fort Lewis on Friday and Colorado Mesa on Saturday inside Drag's Court.
