Volleyball Wraps up Regular Season at Home Against Adams State and Western State

SILVER CITY, N.M. – Having moved up two sports in the latest regional rankings, the Western New Mexico University volleyball team will look to continue their winning ways this weekend when they host Adams State and Western State in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.


First up on Friday night at 7 p.m., the Lady Mustangs will host Adams State, as the Grizzlies are currently ranked ninth in the South Central Region and third in the RMAC. ASU is 15-11 overall and 13-5 in the RMAC . The Grizzlies defeated WNMU in straight sets earlier this year back on Sep. 21 in Alamosa. ASU has won three straight with victories over New Mexico Highlands, CSU-Pueblo and Western State all on the road. Deprece Washington leads the Grizzlies in kills with 311, while Letisha Spencer (243), Megan Tapia (223) and Lindsey Stindt (211) are all over 200. Gabriella Rifilato has 1,042 assists, while on defense, Savannah Smith has 299 digs and Tapia has 100 total blocks.


The Lady Mustangs will close the regular season on Saturday night at 7 p.m. against Western State Colorado University. Six WNMU seniors will be honored during the game in Angelina Pulu (Long Beach, CA/Robert A. Millikan High School), Seluia "Ria" Falealili (Long Beach, CA/Long Beach Poly), Alyssa Meihack (Fallon, NV/Churchill County High School), Bobbi Bayer (Granby, CO/Eddyville Blakesburg ), Kassie Kagawa (Hilo, HI/Waiakea High School) and Reyna Acosta (Pearl City, HI/Pearl City). The Mountaineers are 1-25 and 0-18 in the RMAC with their win coming against Texas-Permian Basin back on Sep. 7, 3-2. Kelsie Dardis leads the team with 125 kills, while Kallee Cool has 114. Allison Walker has 513 assists, while on defense, Amanda Maestas has 274 digs and Dardis leads in blocks with 47. WNMU won the matchup earlier this year back on Sep. 20 in Gunnison, 3-1.


The Lady Mustangs have won four straight with wins over CSU-Pueblo (3-0), New Mexico Highlands (3-1), Colorado Mesa (3-1) and Fort Lewis (3-0). WNMU is 6-1 at home this season having won their last five inside Drag's Court.


Pulu leads the team in kills with 301 and in digs with 376. Bayer is a close second with 298 kills. Meihack leads the team in assists with 1,085, while on defense Kaysee Pilgrim (Phoenix, AZ/Barry Goldwater) has 81 total blocks and Shannon Rich (Folsom, CA/Folsom) has 78.
