LAKEWOOD/GOLDEN, Colo. – The road swing continues for the Western New Mexico University volleyball team as they play at Colorado Christian and Colorado Mines.
First up will be Colorado Christian in Lakewood Thursday night at 7 p.m. The Lady Mustangs will look to continue their eight-match win streak against a team in the Cougars that they defeated 3-2 earlier this season at the I.C. Bhakta Invite in Las Vegas, N.M. CCU (13-8, 7-4 RMAC) is 5-0 at home this season and winners of three straight defeating Colorado College (3-1), Fort Lewis (3-0) and Colorado Mesa (3-2), with the last two at home. The Cougars won last year's matchup defeating WNMU in Silver City, 3-0. Taylor Sturms leads in kills with 384, followed by 202 from Ali Weber. Jordan Kissman has 863 assists, while on defense, Holly Hardcastle has 294 digs, and Sturms with 274. Bri Ridley has 72 total blocks, with Weber another 69.
The next night WNMU will face No. 16 Colorado Mines on Friday night at 7 p.m. CSM (16-4, 10-1 RMAC) is on a nine-match win streak and currently lead the RMAC by a game over the Lady Mustangs. The Orediggers are 10-0 at home with a pair of wins this past week over Colorado Mesa (3-1) and Fort Lewis (3-0). WNMU defeated CSM, 3-2, last year in a thrilling five-set match in Silver City. Melanie Wannamaker leads the Orediggers in kills with 322. Danielle Johnson-Hazlewood has 903 assists. On defense, Hannah Margheim has 322 digs and in terms of blocking, Wannamaker has 57.
While both Colorado Christian and Colorado Mines have gone undefeated at home, WNMU is 8-1 in true road contests and 5-1 in neutral matches.
Angelina Pulu (Long Beach, CA/Robert A. Millikan High School) leads the offense with 239 kills, while
Bobbi Bayer (Granby, CO/Eddyville Blakesburg ) has 229.
Alyssa Meihack (Fallon, NV/Churchill County High School) has dished out 820 assists (10.93 per set). On defense, Pulu leads in digs with 303, while
Kaysee Pilgrim (Phoenix, AZ/Barry Goldwater) has 57 blocks and
Shannon Rich (Folsom, CA/Folsom) another 53.
