Box Score SILVER CITY, N.M. -- The Western New Mexico University Lady Mustangs powered forward Saturday night with a 72-44 victory over the Chadron State College Eagles in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. Western New Mexico (WNMU) started off slow, but eventually was able to gain a consistent lead and have the upper hand throughout the game.

Nine minutes into the game with the score 14-12 in favor of Chadron State, WNMU (3-12, 2-10 RMAC) started what was a 17-0 run on the Lady Eagles. Senior
Heather Hamilton (Ely, NV/White Pine High School) started the streak bringing the game to a tie 14-14. Following Hamilton was a three-pointer by sophomore
Desiree Young (North Ogden, UT/Weber High School) and a jumper made by senior
Morgan Wohltman (Queen Creek, AZ/Highland High School).

The run continued, as Chadron State College's (CSC) Greer Babbe missed her layup and WNMU's junior
Veronica Celaya (Chandler, AZ/Williams Field High School) retrieved the rebound and hit the deep ball to push the Lady Mustangs ahead, 22-14.
With CSC (3-12, 3-8 RMAC) still yet to score, Hamilton contributed a jumper assisted by Celaya. Junior
Kim Clark (Santee, CA/West Hills High School) added three on the ensuing trip and Wohltman also with a layup to bring the score to 29-14 WNMU with just over three minutes in the first half.
CSC was able to pick up six points and WNMU picked up seven more points before the half bringing the score to 36-20 WNMU.
With a comfortable 16-point lead over the Lady Eagles, WNMU was able to maintain a solid pace going into the second half.
WNMU posted a 10-0 run on the Lady Eagles in the second half. Senior
Jelesia Gray (Sierra Vista, AZ/Buena High School) kicked it off the three-minute run with a layup assisted by Hamilton. Adding on were Celaya with a jumper, Wohltman with two free throws, and senior
Kassie Scott (El Paso, TX/Coronado High School) with a six consecutive points.
The Lady Mustangs were able to keep the momentum throughout the second half and hold a double-digit lead on their way to the 72-44 victory.
Wohltman led all scorers with 15 points, while Hamilton and Scott tallied 11 points each. Celaya came off the bench with a near double-double of nine points and nine rebounds. Kattie Ranta led CSC with 12 points.
WNMU shot 42.1 percent (24-57), while holding CSC to a 34.8 clip (16-46). WNMU dominated in three-pointers (10-3) and free throws (14-9), while also forcing 28 turnovers that turned into 31 points.
WNMU hit the road next Saturday heading to Las Vegas, N.M., to face New Mexico Highlands University beginning at 1:00pm.
