Box Score SILVER CITY, N.M. – No. 18 Metro State was just too much Friday night as the Roadrunners defeated the Western New Mexico University men's basketball team, 90-65, in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action at Drag's Court.
MSCD (20-5, 15-5 RMAC) came out on fire early, racing out to an 8-0 lead nearly three minutes in. The lead would reach 12 at the 15:16 mark before WNMU (8-16, 8-12 RMAC) began to chip away.
Brelan Berry (Chandler, AZ/Basha High School) started the run with a dunk off a pass from
Ryan Crane (Anthem, AZ/Boulder Creek High School), he then added another to follow-up a dunk from
Chad Carter (Tucson, AZ/Ironwood Ridge High School) that had the Mustangs within eight. They would get to within seven on a trey from Carter at the 13:14 mark, 18-11, but the 'Runners had an answer pushing the lead back to 13 over the next few minutes thanks to a 6-0 run.
WNMU would get back to within 10, 28-18, on a jumper by
Daryl Littleton (Tucson, AZ/Palo Verde High School), but that would be as close as they would get the rest of the way.
TJ Riley (Tyler, TX/Chapel Hill High School) led the Mustangs with 21 points, with Carter adding 19. Littleton came off the bench to add 10 points in 12 minutes.
The Roadrunners were led by 21 from Reggie Evans and 20 from Brandon Jefferson.
WNMU will conclude their home slate of the 2011-12 season on Saturday night when they host Regis University with tipoff set for 7:30 p.m. The Mustangs' only senior, Riley will be honored in-between games.
