Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Colorado Mesa University jumped out 15-2 early and never looked back as they defeated the Western New Mexico University women's basketball team, 86-48, Saturday night in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.


CMU (11-12, 9-10 RMAC) opened the game with an 8-0 run two minutes in and then after Heather Hamilton (Ely, NV/White Pine High School) posted the first points for WNMU (0-22, 0-19 RMAC), the Mavericks went on a 7-0 run to open a 15-2 lead and were on their way.


The Mustangs made a run midway through the first half, after trailing by 15, Kassie Scott (El Paso, TX/Coronado High School) tallied a layup while being fouled.


She also hit the foul shot. Lonnie Sanchez (Scottsdale, AZ/St. Mary's High School) then connected on a three-pointer to trim the deficit to nine, 21-12.CMU went on another 8-0 run to put the game back out of reach.


Scott led the Mustangs with 15 points, with Hamilton adding 10.


Chrissy Armstrong posted a double-double for the Mavs, scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead all players in both categories.


WNMU will return home this coming Friday when they will host nationally ranked Metro State inside Drag's Court with tipoff set for 6 p.m.
