GUNNISON, Colo. – The Western New Mexico volleyball team will begin action against the RMAC West Division tonight when they face Western State College at Paul Wright Gym beginning at 7 p.m.

Western State (3-7, 0-3 RMAC) has lost five straight after winning a pair of matches in a row against Saint Anselm (3-0) and Academy of Art (3-2). The Mountaineers were shut out in all three RMAC matches this past week in facing Regis, Colorado Christian and Colorado Mines, with all of the matches coming in Gunnison.

Josie Hopkins and Kallee Cool pace the team in kills, with Hopkins posting 91 to 80 for Cool. Molly Dolson is the main setter, with 237 assists in 601 total attempts. Two players have over 100 digs in Sami Fuentes (181) and Hopkins (105).

WNMU (6-5, 2-1 RMAC) rebounded after a tough five-set loss to University of Colorado-Colorado Springs to pull out a five-set win over then No. 7 Metro State this past Saturday at Drags Court.

The Mustangs are an even 4-4 away from Silver City this year, having split four matches in two different tournaments this year.

Sophomore Angelina Pulu (Long Beach, CA/Robert A. Millikan High School) has been all over the net when it comes to kills, having posted 163 in 44 sets played this season to lead the way. She also has 12 assists, 14 service aces, 164 digs and 24 total blocks.

Sophomore Alyssa Melhack has set the table for the team with 412 assists, averaging over nine per set, along with 13 aces and 106 digs.

Senior Marilee Frost (Long Beach, CA/Robert A. Millikan High School) is the only other Mustang above 100 digs with 150.

This will be a quick road swing for WNMU, as after tonight, they will play an afternoon match Saturday at 2 p.m. against CSU-Pueblo before returning home to face Fort Lewis next Friday.
