Metro State showed their experience when it comes to RMAC tournament time. They pulled away from WNMU midway through the first half to take a 43-28 lead at intermission. The Roadrunners then stretched the lead to as many as 32 in the second half and finished with a 90-69 victory.
The Mustangs had a hot hand from the three-point line the majority of the game, hitting 11 of their first 21 shots from downtown. They closed out the game, however, 0 for 6.
“It was tentativeness,” says head coach
Mark Coleman. “We weren't moving like we did against Highlands….Metro didn't miss a beat.”
Playing in his last game of his career,
Jeron McIntosh (Albuquerque, NM, La Cueva High School) finished with 19 points to lead the Mustangs. He went 4 for 6 from the field with three coming from behind the arc. The other eight points were at the charity stripe.
Andy Sohlich (Battle Creek, MI, St. Phillip Catholic Central High School, Western Texas Community College; Eldon Academy Prep) came off the bench for 13 points.
WNMU's season scoring leaders
Chad Carter (Tucson, AZ, Ironwood Ridge High School) and
TJ Riley (Tyler, TX, Chapel Hill High School, Lamar University) were both limited because of foul trouble. The duo finished the game with four fouls apiece and combined for 17 points.
The Mustangs were predicted to finish 11th in the conference at the beginning of the season and surprised the conference with a seventh place finish with a 14-16 overall record.
