No. 11 Metro State cruised to a 73-53 victory over Western New Mexico on Friday in a battle between the first-and-last-place teams in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The Roadrunners improved to 23-1 overall and 19-1 in the RMAC while WNMU fell to 1-23 and 1-19.
Amanda Tucker (Las Cruces, NM, Mayfield High School) hit four threes and was 7 for 19 from the floor to finish with 20 points to lead the Mustangs.
Jaleesa Russell (Albuquerque, NM, Sandia High School) followed with 10 points. She also grabbed six boards.
The Mustangs were forced to play catch-up the entire game as the Roadrunners jumped out to an 18-4 lead after just six minutes of play. A last second three-pointer by the Mustangs cut the halftime lead to 39-26.
Metro State never led by more than 20 points in the second half. WNMU kept in the game and trimmed the Roadrunner lead to 11 at 63-52 with 4:31 left, but a 10-1 run to end the game pushed the Roadrunner margin back to 20 at the final buzzer.
