Riley Nails 20 Points In Loss

Junior TJ Riley
Twenty points by TJ Riley (Tyler, TX, Chapel Hill High School, Lamar University) was not enough to lift the Mustangs over the powerful Metro State Friday night. The Roadrunners earned the victory, 80-50. The Roadrunners improved to 19-5 overall and 16-4 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, and WNMU fell to 12-15 and 12-8.

The Mustangs got beat under the basket with Metro State outrebounding WNMU, 52-32, and WNMU shooting just .255 from the floor.

WNMU held with the Roadrunners the majority of the first half. Metro State did not gain a double-figure lead until a three with 45 seconds left before intermission stretched the lead to 36-25. After a dunk by Riley, the Roadrunners drained a three-quarter court shot at the buzzer, sending Metro State into halftime up 39-27.

The second half was all Metro State as it outscored WNMU, 41-23, stretching its lead to 30 points with 2:21 to play. Metro State took a 31-point lead at 78-47 with 1:11 left, its largest lead in over a month.

Riley was one rebound shy of a double-double. Andy Sohlich (Battle Creek, MI, St. Phillip Catholic Central High School, Western Texas Community College; Eldon Academy Prep) was the only other Mustang to record double digits. He went 3 for 10 from the floor for 11 points.
