Mustangs End Five-Game Win Streak

Junior TJ Riley
WNMU had their shot against Mesa State Saturday night. It came down to free throws in the end. In the final 1:39, the Mustangs missed 5 of their last 10 shots at the line. The Mavericks walked away with the two-point margin win, 56-54.

The two teams are now even in the conference standings at 12-7.

Neither team shot particularly well with both teams shooting under .250 in the first half and walked into the locker room with two low scores. WNMU led at the half, 24-16.

The Mavericks stepped up in the second half though, making .520 of their shots, whereas the Mustangs only made a quarter of them and also missed eight freebies in the final stanza. WNMU finished the night going 22 for 32 from the free throw line (.688).

TJ Riley (Tyler, TX, Chapel Hill High School, Lamar University) finished with 12 points and six rebounds, but he also coughed up five of the team's nine turnovers. Mesa State struggled themselves at protecting the ball. They gave up 20 turnovers as a team, resulting in 21 Mustang points.

Daryl Littleton (Tucson, AZ, Palo Verde High School) was a spark off of the WNMU bench the last two games. Tonight he had four rebounds, one block, and one steal.

Mesa State had four players in double figures with Colton Burgon leading the way with 14 points. He was one rebound shy of a double-double.
