In the battle of Westerns, it was the Colorado version that proved victorious Friday night as the Western State Mountaineers topped WNMU, 89-61, in RMAC women's basketball action in Silver City. The visitors led virtually wire-to-wire, leading 42-33 at the half before drawing out to the final margin. Western State moved to 10-12 (8-10 RMAC), while Western New Mexico suffered its 21st loss of the year against a single win.

Shooting, which has been a weak point for the Mustangs his season, was fair over the 40 minutes for WSC, going 29 of 46 for .468, while Western New Mexico hit on 19 of 46 shots for .413. The big difference was that the Mountaineers poured in 14 of 24 three-pointers for an astounding .583 percent from the field.

Western State also controlled the boards, out-rebounding their hosts, 41-22.

Western New Mexico was again led by Amanda Tucker (Las Cruces, NM, Mayfield High School), who scored 11 points. Jaleesa Russell (Albuquerque, NM, Sandia High School) and Larissa Loera (Mira Loma, CA, Jurupa Valley High School) scored 10 points each.
